Education

I received my Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine and also hold a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Memphis, a Master of Business Administration in Sustainability from Green Mountain College and a culinary Plant-based Professional Certification through Rouxbe.

Certification

I am a licensed Acupuncturist and Eastern Medicine Practitioner in Washington state (WA License #AC 00002026) and nationally certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine) through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

I started my professional life in engineering and while living in Taiwan began studying Eastern medicine. The rich history of the medicine, my generous teachers and the amazing effectiveness of treatment were compelling enough to convince me to leave one world of work for the other. This might seem like a path standing worlds apart, but like science practicing medicine appealed to me because it relied heavily on observation and measurement to reveal potential solutions to a problem.

Outside of work my happy place is basically anywhere in nature and my practice is deeply informed by these experiences. As a gardener, beekeeper, backpacker and naturalist, I am always amazed by the connections that exist throughout the natural world. This has really fed my belief that the siloed way we deliver health care today, one that emphasizes a view of the body via its component parts, misses opportunities that come with contextualizing our problems and their solutions within the larger whole of our lives.

My goal as a practitioner is to focus on the relationships between systems and symptoms and construct a larger model of health with a focus on prevention. In my years of practice I have found acupuncture and herbal medicine to be effective and supportive vehicles suitable for all body types and abilities.

“. . . the sinuous tenacity of a tree: finding the light newly blocked on one side, it turns in another. A blind intelligence, true. But out of such persistence arose turtles, rivers, mitochondria, figs — all this resinous, unretractable earth."
